"There are more singles than ever in the UK (6,622,000 aged between 25 and 44 in England and Wales in 2006, compared with 4,657,000 in 1996 and 2,532,000 in 1986 – and these figures do not include the divorced or widowed). Around 8 million people use some form of online dating service, evidence suggests that it often does not end with a lasting relationship. A survey by YouGov found that only a quarter of people who used internet dating sites, were confident that they would find the person they were looking for, and many lapsed members insist that the pool of potential partners is simply too broad."
