Babbo means ‘daddy’ in Italian
Tradition, family, romance and warmth are the key ingredients that make our restaurant what it is today – one of London’s finest restaurants serving authentic Italian cuisine.
Whilst offering the highest fine dining service, you will enjoy the most exquisite traditional Italian food, with authentic home-made dishes made from recipes passed down through generations.
The other difference is our ingredients. All of our food and wine has been personally sourced by our chef from near his home among the rolling hills and olive groves of Tuscany. Home-made bread and pasta complete our offering.
One outstanding example is Babbo’s signature dish, the Lasagne al ragout di chianina. It is prepared according to a secret 100-year-old recipe, passed to Chef Douglas Santi by his grandmother.
Douglas Santi began his career at 13 years old. He helped Laurent Saudeau, the right hand man to acclaimed nouvelle cuisine chef Paul Bocuse. Santi’s position and ambition grew and he was drawn to restaurants in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Milan, Italy, where his reputation began to attract glowing reviews from food critics.
In 1999 Santi took on a role as Sous Chef to Alain Ducasse at his famous restaurant Louis XV in Monaco. The following 5 years he travelled around the globe at Ducasse’s restaurants in Monaco to New York’s Saint-Regis, Paris Plaza Athénéé and then to the renowned Las Vegas restaurant Mix.
Santi believes good food comes from the heart, but successful restaurants need dedication, time and only the very best ingredients.
In 2005, he opened his own venture in Sao Paulo, which consequently received top awards for best chef and best restaurant simultaneously. Two years on, new challenges in life took Santi to his native Italy where in 2008 he worked as the executive chef of Terme de Saturnia, an acclaimed restaurant and spa in Tuscany.
